COVID-19 Testing Q & A

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, which can lead to serious illness or even death. It causes flu-like symptoms that range in severity from mild to severe and life-threatening.

COVID-19 testing at Be Well Medical can let you know if you have COVID-19, or if you’ve recovered from it and have COVID-19 antibodies.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Common signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose or congestion
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Confusion

Symptoms typically appear within 2-14 days after you’ve been exposed to COVID-19. If you or a loved one is experiencing difficulty breathing, chest pain, or confusion, seek medical attention right away.

What happens during COVID-19 testing?

Several tests are available to determine if you currently have a COVID-19 infection or were infected with it previously.

The specialists at Be Well Medical might swab your throat or the back part of your nostril to test for current COVID-19 infection. They also offer blood tests that can detect COVID-19 antibodies or your body’s immunity to the illness.

You might receive your test results soon after completing COVID-19 testing, later the same day, or within a day or two, depending on the type of test you’re given.

What if I test positive for COVID-19?

If your COVID-19 test is positive, Dr. Rastegar advises you on how long to quarantine away from other people to reduce your risk of spreading the virus. During quarantine, you should get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, and eat healthy foods to encourage healing.

Ask Dr. Rastegar about COVID-19 treatments that can reduce symptoms over the duration of your illness.

Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer, wear a mask when around other people, and avoid coughing or sneezing near other people. You should have any friends and family members who have been in close contact with you undergo COVID-19 testing too.
